With the number one pick in the NFL Draft, there is typically a bit of hype surrounding them. With Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward, however, it seems that the hype is quiet, similar to the quiet confidence Ward sometimes exudes when he is speaking with the media.

Titans star defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, when recently speaking on “Good Morning Football,” felt that it was strange how little attention Ward, his teammate, has been getting after being the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.

“I have never seen a number one pick overall never get the respect and quite frankly, the attention he deserves,” Simmons said.

However, when Simmons was around Ward during minicamp, he recognized the competitor and the talent that Ward possesses. So, he saw what made the rookie quarterback so special up close and in person.

“We were in minicamp, and it was after a play, and we stopped them. I think I ended up getting a sack, and all of a sudden we are talking smack and Cally (Titans head coach Brian Callahan) is giving the play and I am still talking smack to him,” Simmons said. ‘And it didn’t faze him. He still talking smack while Cally giving the play to him. He’s giving the play to the offense while still talking smack to me. And literally when he gave him that play and came to the line, the next play after the smack talk, he threw an 80-yard bomb to Calvin Ridley.”

Simmons already recognized the talent that Ward is, but in that play, it definitely sunk in to him what tons of people feel about Cam Ward:

“That right there showed me we got us one. He’s legit,” Simmons said.

As for Simmons, the longest-tenured Titan on the team, he feels it is his job to take care of the younger players even as he is surprised that he is in Year 7 himself.

“We know that Cam Ward is gonna have to play football for us this season, and it is my goal and my job to help him out,” Simmons acknowledged. “Just to try and make him feel at home.”

Time will tell if Simmons can make Ward comfortable this season. As he mentioned on Good Morning Football, both he and Ward like to fish and will go fishing at some point, so that should help with their chemistry off the field. But the larger point remains clear, which is that Simmons believes in the abilities of Cam Ward.
